2LT Ice Explorers

13 January 2016Latest News Year 2

On Monday, Year 2 had a surprising start to our new ‘Ice Explorers’ topic! The children came in to find the classroom decorated with snowflakes, fairy lights and icy materials, with a temperature to match! We turned the heating off and opened all the doors and windows to experience a little of what it might be like in the polar regions of the world.

Some of the activities we completed included playing with very large blocks of ice, finding people and animals buried in the snow (shaving foam!) and trying to colour pictures in whilst wearing our gloves – more difficult than we thought! Finally we went out into the playground and warmed ourselves up with a cup of hot chocolate.

We are all looking forward to learning more about the Antarctic over the next few weeks, including the climate, Emperor penguins and famous explorers.
