Ancient Greek Day 2016

Year 4 were divided into two rival city states, Athens and Sparta. Both classes were preparing for an afternoon feast where Athens provided the food and Sparta the entertainment.

Mr Lewis’ class experienced life as Athenians with boys learning a range of mathematical skills and learning Greek poetry, and the girls being forbidden from learning and tasked with cleaning chores. Mr Delfosse’s class were Spartans and took part in the Agoge, the training programme to become part of the Spartan army. All the children had to complete a speed reading challenge, war dance, fitness march and learn the sacred oath. In the afternoon both classes came together to reflect on what they had experienced and feast on traditional ancient Greek food. It was a fantastic day with everyone fully engaged and immersed in learning about what life would have been like as an ancient Greek child.
