Welcome to Year 5

Our year group motto is ‘We can learn anything’ and our focus is on developing the children’s growth mind-set. Having a growth mind-set means the children grow in confidence, resilience and positivity. We will be working incredibly hard across the curriculum and encouraging the children to embrace every challenge with enthusiasm. We have a number of exciting topics and trips planned throughout the year to help enrich the children’s learning beyond the classroom.

Homework plays an important role in communicating what the children have been learning in school, back home. This year, instead of setting short pieces of maths and english homework each week, we will be focussing on one subject in greater detail. We will set homework on Friday and it is due in on Tuesday.

20 children took part in 3 events at the Devon Summer School Games Finals at Plymouth.
8 children from year 5 & 6 took part in the athletics finals at the Kings School.
We have received a visit from Helen Parr of the Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project, this has inspired us to work together to become a Bat Friendly school.
On Friday 9th June, the whole school enjoyed a special morning, celebrating and learning about Christian weddings. We held a mock wedding at St Gregory’s church where Danielle and Thomas played the part of the bride and groom, and a girl and boy from every class played the parts of bridesmaids and ushers. A big thank you to Rev Jeremy Trew at St Gregory’s Church who led the service and to Just Flowers of Seaton who very generously donated the flowers. We had a great time dressing up, don’t the children scrub up well!
